A South Africa woman has become increasingly distressed by her sexual performance, a report from the South African Medical Association (SAMA) found.
The woman, who is aged 66, had been taking sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, for several years.
The condition is not common in South Africa, and the majority of people are not able to afford their own erectile dysfunction drugs.
“We are now in the second half of the year, and have been living in Durban for a number of months,” said Ms. Nkosi, a SAMA medical adviser.
While sexual performance is common in the South African context, she has not been able to obtain her own pills from the market.
Sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, is prescribed to help men achieve and maintain an erection during sexual activity.
The condition is not common in South Africa, and many men in South Africa do not suffer from sexual difficulties.
However, a report from the SAMA found that one in five South Africans suffer from sexual dysfunction.
A survey of 1,300 people in Durban by the SAMA and SAIMA found that around one in three people are not able to purchase the tablets.
In Durban, men in their mid-twenties have reported having difficulty getting an erection.
The study, conducted at the University of Cape Town’s Faculty of Medicine, found that between one in six and one in three men who take Viagra experience erectile dysfunction.
Viagra is a prescription drug that was prescribed by a doctor for a variety of conditions.
Some of the symptoms associated with this condition include:
- Erectile dysfunction - In men, blood vessels in the penis become enlarged, leading to difficulty getting or keeping an erection
- Impotence - A man may also experience impotence, a condition where a man’s sexual performance is not affected
- Sexual arousal problems - Men who have had difficulty in getting or keeping an erection are at increased risk of developing this condition
- Anxiety - Men who suffer from anxiety or nervousness are more likely to be affected by the condition
- Erection problems - The majority of men have been warned by their doctors about the condition, but it is more common in those who are over 60
The study also showed that Viagra is not an effective treatment for erectile dysfunction in men.
“Our data shows that most men who take sildenafil for erectile dysfunction do not experience the expected benefits. They may have been able to have more sexual encounters and improve their sexual performance,” said Ms. Nkosi.
“Sildenafil will likely improve your sex life, and if you are still having difficulties getting or keeping an erection, you may be able to get an injection or some other treatment.”
It is important for men to report any issues with sexual performance to their doctor immediately. This will prevent the erection from arising.

On 14 March 2023, the UK Medicines regulator approved an application to reclassify the erectile dysfunction medication Cialis. When marketed asCialis Together(tadalafil 10mg), it will be a ‘P’ (pharmacy) medication, and so available ‘over the counter’ in pharmacies – see. Sanofi, the drug manufacturer, is expected to launch Cialis Together later in 2023. Cialis Together will be available to purchase in pharmacies without a prescription by men over 18 with erectile dysfunction. Cialis Together tablets will contain 10mg tadalafil and the maximum pack size will be 8 tablets. Other doses and pack sizes of Cialis and tadalafil will still be available on prescription through doctors and specially trained pharmacists. Before purchase in a pharmacy there must be an assessment with a pharmacist, who will check that Cialis Together is appropriate and safe, or whether consultation with a GP is necessary.
Men suffering with ED will have another treatment option with the convenience of purchasing it in their local pharmacy, including pharmacies found inside supermarkets (eg. Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s). The pharmacist will ask some health questions, may check blood pressure, and will advise on treatment with Cialis Together or Viagra Connect, or the need to consult a GP. Pharmacies usually have a private room for such discussions.
Cialis Together is a 10mg tadalafil product for use at least 30 minutes prior to anticipated sexual activity.
Viagra Connect is available by prescription only if you have a medical condition such as heart failure or kidney disease. It can be taken with or without food. When purchased without a prescription these medicines can be more expensive, with risks to your health.

A growing number of men in Britain are turning to the blue pills to address erectile dysfunction.
Experts have discovered that a number of erectile dysfunction drugs, including Viagra, are no longer available.
